Schedules, Schedules, Schedules!

The past couple weeks have been all over the place in term’s of A’s schedule. We’re in the process of transitioning (yet again) and it’s always difficult to find that sweet spot of minimal fussing, optimal sleeping. At the moment we’re tinkering between 2 and 3 naps, but neither has given us a good 7pm – 7am stretch as it was before the transition.

As promised, here are some of my old schedules that worked really well for us for a few weeks in each stage:

3-4months
3 – 4 months

3 – 4 months

7 wake and feed
8:15 – 10 nap
10 feed
11:15 – 1:15 nap
1:15 feed
2:30 – 4:30 nap
4:30 feed
6:30 feed
7 bed
2 middle of the night feedings determined by whenever A woke up typically anywhere between 11 – 1 and 3 – 5, and later dropping to 1 anytime between 2 – 5

(honestly the last part of the day seems weird to me looking back at it now since from 4:30 – 6:30 / 7 is kind of a long stretch for a 3 – 4 month old, A is 6ish months, and we still only really do 2.5 hours max, so maybe we let her catnap? Sorry, I can’t remember!)

4-5months
4.5 months

4.5 months transition
meaning we were working from the previous schedule to the next schedule, slowly increasing waketime each day

11:40 – 1:40 nap
1:40 feed
3:10 – 4:30 nap

6:30 feed
7 bed

(A got A LOT faster at nursing so the last feed we were able to move later so we could put her to bed right after nursing)

So we were doing this new schedule (that I loved) for about a week when I noticed my supply dropping (I had dropped the late afternoon feeding as I got the feeling A wasn’t drinking a full feeding between that one and the last one). All of a sudden, A’s wet diapers started decreasing and she started getting more fussy than normal. We even had to go into urgent care because one day she only had one (light!) wet diaper over the span of 15 hours! :'( Anyways, after that I reintroduced a feeding, so my schedule for that was:

6months4
6.5 months

7 wake and feed
8 solids
9 – 11 nap
11 feed
12 solids
1 feed (extra feeding to help w/ dehydration, and quickly increase supply)
1:30 – 3:30 nap
3:30 feed
5:15 solids
6:30 feed
6:45 bed

We did that for a few days, and I started pumping like crazy to increase supply, and it’s been working, so we’re dropping that first afternoon feeding, and going back to the four feeds. But in order to maintain supply I’m having to pump once before going to bed. Not the most convenient, as I haven’t pumped in ages, but worth it to keep supply up! And I’m hoping to be able to donate the extra milk to a milk bank, so perhaps there will be a future post on that experience! Anyways, after dropping that extra feeding, we’re heading towards our new schedule, which right now is still hit or miss (last night was a hit!).

7months
almost 7 months!

7 months

7 wake and feed
8 solids
9 – 11 nap
11 feed
12 solids
1:30 – 3:30 nap
3:30 feed
4:30 / 5 solids
6:30 feed
7 bed

We’ll see how it goes!
